Left untreated, gingivitis may progress to periodontitis, often without any obvious signs to alert you.  However, some changes that you might experience over time include: increased bleeding from the gums, which may be provoked by brushing or eating, or even be spontaneous; bad breath; changes in the positioning of the teeth in the jaws; lengthening of the teeth (gum recession); and possibly pain. Bleeding from the gums may be less noticeable in smokers, because of the effect of nicotine on blood vessels, and so the disease process may be masked.
I have been a smoker and heavy diet soda drinker for the last few years, and have tried Crest White Strips a couple of times with no results. I used this for the first time with off brand white strips (the brand was Lovely Smile, which was also purchased on Amazon). I used the tray and strips together for about 35-40 minutes and my teeth were about a shade lighter after one use, which was a pleasant surprise. My teeth are not sensitive at all, but I did notice that they were a tad sensitive a few hours afterwards, so I’d recommend people with any sort of sensitivity not do more than 20 minutes at first to see how they are effected. Also, I imagine if you don’t smoke or drink a lot of soda/coffee it would probably take more than once to see a difference. All together, I’m pleased with this product!
At-home whitening methods include gels, chewing gums, rinses, toothpastes, paint-on films, and whitening strips.[22][23] Most over-the-counter methods utilize either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide.[23] Although there is some evidence that such products will whiten the teeth compared to placebo, the majority of the published scientific studies were short term and are subject to a high risk of bias as the research was sponsored or conducted by the manufacturers.[23] There is no long term evidence of the effectiveness or potential risks of such products.[23] Any demonstrable difference in the short term efficiency of such products seems to be related to concentration of the active ingredient.[23]

Crest Whitestrips couldn't be simpler to use, just peel them from their foil package, remove the backing, and apply to your teeth. Crest recommends you do so before you brush your teeth for optimal effectiveness and adherence, and some users add that they get even better results if they dry their teeth first. Once they're on though, they stay on, and you can even talk or drink water while wearing the strips. Each treatment is 30 minutes, once a day. Crest makes a variety of Whitestrips systems, but the two that are included in testing in most of the professional roundups we spotted are Crest 3D White Professional Effects (Est. $25 and up) and Crest 3D White Glamourous White Whitestrips (Est. $35 for 14 treatments). But you can't go wrong with any Crest Whitestrips formulation that might be on the store shelf (or on sale!) when you're out shopping. Cosmetic Dentist London | Cosmetic Dentistry London
The goal of toothbrushing is to remove plaque on the teeth that will harbor bacteria and cause gum disease and tooth decay. Just about any toothpaste when used with consistent thorough brushing habits will accomplish this goal. There are some ingredients in toothpastes that help remove plaque more effectively and help keep plaque off the teeth after they have been brushed. The abrasive agents in toothpaste such as silicates and calcium carbonates help remove plaque that is a little sticky. Sodium lauryl sulfate is a detergent in toothpaste that causes the foaming effect of toothpastes. Toothpastes vary in the amount of SLS they contain; a high concentration of SLS can cause problems for patients who have dry mouth or low saliva flow. Some toothpastes include plaque-control agents such as pyrophosphates and zinc citrate that prevent plaque from sticking to the teeth after they've been brushed. Using a toothpaste that contains any combination of these ingredients will increase the effectiveness of oral hygiene.

If you’ve lost bone in your jaw, you may need a bone graft before getting implants. That would mean more surgery and more healing time, but implants may still be an option. “There are many patients that present with no bone, when in fact there is bone for implant placement,” says Oxnard, California, dentist Dr. Saj Jivraj. “With sophisticated computer diagnostics, there are very few patients that actually require grafting when we are replacing teeth for the whole jaw.” Cosmetic Dentistry London | Dental Implants | Invisible Braces | Lotus Clinic | Dr Michael Frankl
The prosthetic phase begins once the implant is well integrated (or has a reasonable assurance that it will integrate) and an abutment is in place to bring it through the mucosa. Even in the event of early loading (less than 3 months), many practitioners will place temporary teeth until osseointegration is confirmed. The prosthetic phase of restoring an implant requires an equal amount of technical expertise as the surgical because of the biomechanical considerations, especially when multiple teeth are to be restored. The dentist will work to restore the vertical dimension of occlusion, the esthetics of the smile, and the structural integrity of the teeth to evenly distribute the forces of the implants.[8](pp241–251) Refresh Dental a Dental Clinic in London for Cosmetic Dentistry or for Dentist
A dental implant (also known as an endosseous implant or fixture) is a surgical component that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. The basis for modern dental implants is a biologic process called osseointegration, in which materials such as titanium form an intimate bond to bone. The implant fixture is first placed so that it is likely to osseointegrate, then a dental prosthetic is added. A variable amount of healing time is required for osseointegration before either the dental prosthetic (a tooth, bridge or denture) is attached to the implant or an abutment is placed which will hold a dental prosthetic. 24 Hour Dentist in Kilburn London | 020 3962 2101 | Emergency Dental Care Clinic Services
This section from a panoramic X-ray film depicts the teeth of the lower left quadrant, exhibiting generalized severe bone loss of 30–80%. The red line depicts the existing bone level, whereas the yellow line depicts where the gingiva was located originally (1–2 mm above the bone), prior to the person developing periodontal disease. The pink arrow, on the right, points to a furcation involvement, or the loss of enough bone to reveal the location at which the individual roots of a molar begin to branch from the single root trunk; this is a sign of advanced periodontal disease. The blue arrow, in the middle, shows up to 80% bone loss on tooth #21, and clinically, this tooth exhibited gross mobility. Finally, the peach oval, to the left, highlights the aggressive nature with which periodontal disease generally affects mandibular incisors. Because their roots are generally situated very close to each other, with minimal interproximal bone, and because of their location in the mouth, where plaque and calculus accumulation is greatest because of the pooling of saliva,[citation needed] mandibular anteriors suffer excessively. The split in the red line depicts varying densities of bone that contribute to a vague region of definitive bone height.

Dental implants have undoubtedly been one of the most important advancements in oral health over the past years. Dental implants are anchored in the jaw and thus provide unmatched stability when compared to temporary bridges or dentures. Dental Implants allow patients to chew and bite just like they do with their natural teeth – without restriction. Maryland Oral Surgery Associates is proud to offer dental implants at all our locations: Annapolis, Bethesda, College Park, Crofton / Gambrills, Frederick, Laurel, Rockville and Silver Spring. The type of implant(s) that will be appropriate: Standard implants are usually 3 to 6 millimeters in diameter and 6 to 14 millimeters in length. They are designed to accept a variety of abutments to customize the connection to many types of teeth. They typically cost between $1800 and $2500 per fixture. “Mini” implants are around 2 millimeters in diameter and can sometimes be used to support very small individual teeth, or combined in a group to support a removable denture. These do not allow for any type of abutment change and thus are limited in the number of applications. They cost in the range of $300 to $900 per fixture. It’s our promise that you won’t undergo any treatment not directly contributing to your long-term dental health. That means that drilling, because it’s so invasive, is a last resort. And yes — the alternatives do really work! Remineralization is a process that helps teeth actually grow stronger so that an early soft spot doesn’t turn into a cavity. Sealants are another great option to prevent the formation and spread of decay. It’s only in cases where less invasive treatment isn’t successful that your dentist may decide to drill. 1999implant.com | Affordable Dental Implants
Of course, you can’t forget about some of the more common advantages of dental implants. Unlike dentures, they never slip or move—and you don’t have to use special cleaners and adhesives. Unlike fixed bridgework, dental implants don’t require adjacent healthy teeth to be filed down. And, there’s this fact to consider: studies have reported that the long-term success rate of implants is over 95%.* Dental Implant Centre

An estimated two in three Americans have one or more missing teeth, mainly due the rise in  periodontal disease as the population grows older.  Tooth loss and other oral health problems in older Americans recently prompted AARP to declare the “Over 50 Dental Crisis.”  In 2006, Dental Economics reported that more than 30 million Americas are missing all their teeth in one or both jaws.
