The relevance of primary implant stability decreases gradually with regrowth of bone tissue around the implant in the first weeks after surgery, leading to secondary stability. Secondary stability is different from the initial stabilization, because it results from the ongoing process of bone regrowth into the implant (osseointegration). When this healing process is complete, the initial mechanical stability becomes biological stability. Primary stability is critical to implantation success until bone regrowth maximizes mechanical and biological support of the implant. Regrowth usually occurs during the 3–4 weeks after implantation. Insufficient primary stability, or high initial implant mobility, can lead to failure.
The two trays that are included in this set are a custom fit design. They are easy to mold by submerging them in hot water for a few seconds until they become supple and then biting into them, taking care not to scald your mouth from the hot water. You then just need to suck them into your teeth to remove any air and water trapped. If you don’t get it right first time, you can just submerge them in hot water again and have another go until you get a comfortable, snug fit.
Once adequate, strong bone is present, the site is ready for the implant. At the implant placement appointment, the dental implant (titanium post) is placed into the bone with a special drill and tools. A "healing cap" is placed over the implant, the gum is stitched up, and the healing phase begins. During this healing phase, a temporary denture can be made to replace missing teeth for esthetic purposes. Healing time depends greatly on the quality of bone present. Healing time is usually anywhere from two to six months. During this time, the implant becomes integrated with the bone. It's important to avoid placing any force or stress on the dental implant as it heals. Follow-up appointments to check the surgical site are typically done to ensure that no infection exists and healing is taking place.

You’re probably aware that a few of your favorite snacks or drinks can have a negative impact on your teeth. So, if you’re in the market for whiter teeth, it’s a good idea to monitor your intake of certain foods and drinks. Some, like citrus, coffee, and sugary foods and drinks, whittle away at your enamel, stain your teeth, or irritate your gums. Fiber-rich foods and green beans, on the other hand, help fight these properties plaguing your teeth, while common dairy products like milk and cheese help replace calcium and other lost minerals. The International Agency of Research on Cancer (IARC) has concluded that there is insufficient evidence for the carcinogeni-city of hydrogen peroxide. The chemical is now under Group 3: Unclassifiable as to carcinogenicity to humans. The genotoxic potential of hydrogen peroxide has been evaluated recently. Oral health products that contain or release hydrogen peroxide up to 3.6% H2O2 is not likely to increase cancer risk in individuals.
The use of bone building drugs, like bisphosphonates and anti-RANKL drugs require special consideration with implants, because they have been associated with a disorder called Medication-associated osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). The drugs change bone turnover, which is thought to put people at risk for death of bone when having minor oral surgery. At routine doses (for example, those used to treat routine osteoporosis) the effects of the drugs linger for months or years but the risk appears to be very low. Because of this duality, uncertainty exists in the dental community about how to best manage the risk of BRONJ when placing implants. A 2009 position paper by the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, discussed that the risk of BRONJ from low dose oral therapy (or slow release injectable) as between 0.01 and 0.06 percent for any procedure done on the jaws (implant, extraction, etc.). The risk is higher with intravenous therapy, procedures on the lower jaw, people with other medical issues, those on steroids, those on more potent bisphosphonates and people who have taken the drug for more than three years. The position paper recommends against placing implants in people who are taking high dose or high frequency intravenous therapy for cancer care. Otherwise, implants can generally be placed and the use of bisphosphonates does not appear to affect implant survival.
In the situation where an implant is to be placed in the maxilla (upper jaw) in the back or posterior region, sometimes the available amount of bone may be limited by the presence of the maxillary sinus (air-filled space found in the bones of the face). "Sinus augmentation" or "sinus lift" is performed to raise the sinus floor and graft more bone into the sinus. This will make more bone available to support a dental implant. If you have mild tooth sensitivity, bad breath, sore gums, or other relatively minor dental ailments, make an appointment with your regular dentist for a checkup. While it is important to treat these conditions promptly, they are not dental emergencies. On the other hand, the conditions below do require emergency care. Here is some guidance for handling each one.
Flap surgery/pocket reduction surgery. During this procedure the gums are lifted back and the tarter is removed. In some cases, irregular surfaces of the damaged bone are smoothed to limit areas where disease-causing bacteria can hide. The gums are then placed so that the tissue fits snugly around the tooth. This method reduces the size of the space between the gum and tooth, thereby decreasing the areas where harmful bacteria can grow and decreasing the chance of serious health problems associated with periodontal disease. If you happen to be suffering from broken braces or wires from your braces poking into the interior skin of your mouth, you’re going to want to cover those pieces of broken wire as soon as you can. It is suggested to purchase dental wax over the counter at most pharmacies, in fact when the dentist installed the braces they probably gave you a small container of the wax for just such occasions. Take a small ball of the wax and roll it up in your fingers and then place it gently over the top of the wire that is bothering you. Next find yourself an appointment with an orthodontist. Brushing and flossing help keep your teeth healthy and your smile bright. Critical as good oral hygiene is to your dental health; the steps you take at home are significantly more effective when they are part of a comprehensive dental care plan that includes regular dental exams and cleanings. Visiting the dentist every six months is essential to protecting yourself from tooth decay and periodontal disease. Without professional help, these common dental problems can lead to a host of serious health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.
The platform between the implant and the abutment can be flat (buttress) or conical fit. In conical fit abutments, the collar of the abutment sits inside the implant which allows a stronger junction between implant and abutment and a better seal against bacteria into the implant body. To improve the gingival seal around the abutment collar, a narrowed collar on the abutment is used, referred to as platform switching. The combination of conical fits and platform switching gives marginally better long term periodontal conditions compared to flat-top abutments. Success or failure of implants depends on the health of the person receiving the treatment, drugs which affect the chances of osseointegration, and the health of the tissues in the mouth. The amount of stress that will be put on the implant and fixture during normal function is also evaluated. Planning the position and number of implants is key to the long-term health of the prosthetic since biomechanical forces created during chewing can be significant. The position of implants is determined by the position and angle of adjacent teeth, by lab simulations or by using computed tomography with CAD/CAM simulations and surgical guides called stents. The prerequisites for long-term success of osseointegrated dental implants are healthy bone and gingiva. Since both can atrophy after tooth extraction, pre-prosthetic procedures such as sinus lifts or gingival grafts are sometimes required to recreate ideal bone and gingiva.
A dental implant (also known as an endosseous implant or fixture) is a surgical component that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. The basis for modern dental implants is a biologic process called osseointegration, in which materials such as titanium form an intimate bond to bone. The implant fixture is first placed so that it is likely to osseointegrate, then a dental prosthetic is added. A variable amount of healing time is required for osseointegration before either the dental prosthetic (a tooth, bridge or denture) is attached to the implant or an abutment is placed which will hold a dental prosthetic. Medicaid is a state-run program that provides medical benefits, and in some cases dental benefits, to eligible individuals and families. States set their own guidelines regarding who is eligible and what services are covered. Most states provide limited emergency dental services for people age 21 or over, while some offer comprehensive services. For most individuals under the age of 21, dental services are provided under Medicaid. Dental London - The Dental Implant Centre

LED light is a form of visible light which can be produced in any color, but blue light is commonly used in dental whitening. This stems from the history of teeth whitening, which originally used ultraviolet (UV) light to speed teeth whitening up. Blue LED light is a safer alternative to UV light because it does not cause mutations in cells. In comparison UV light is a form of ionizing radiation which can, therefore, affect tissue on a cellular level, causing mutations and potentially cancer. As the tissues of the mouth, as well as the nearby eye tissues, are sensitive, it is safer to use LED light for teeth whitening. Dental Implants FREE Consultation Hertfordshire & London
Toothaches: One of the most common reasons for tooth pain is an infection, such as an abscess or cavity. Other times, toothaches result from trauma. A tooth fracture can happen from bumping your mouth, or the failure of an old silver filling. If it has been more than 10 years since your fillings were placed, it is a good idea to see us for a checkup and exam.
Tray-based tooth whitening systems, purchased either over-the-counter or from a dentist, involve filling a mouth guard-like tray with a gel whitening solution -- which contains a peroxide-bleaching agent. The tray is worn for a period of time, generally from a couple of hours a day to every day during the night for up to four weeks and even longer (depending on the degree of discoloration and desired level of whitening).

Changes in the thickness of the dental hard tissues would result in intrinsic discolouration. There are a few causal factors that may act locally or systematically, affecting only a single tooth or all teeth and cause discolouration as a result. Several diseases that are known to affect the developing dentition especially during enamel and dentine formation can lead to discolouration. Causes of intrinsic staining include: My Dental Implant Surgery Experience: PART ONE | My Story + Tips For You! | Mariah Navit
Females generally have slightly whiter teeth than males, partly because females' teeth are smaller, and therefore there is less bulk of dentin, partially visible through the enamel layer. For the same reason, larger teeth such as the molars and the canine (cuspid) teeth tend to be darker. Baby teeth (deciduous teeth) are generally whiter than the adult teeth that follow, again due to differences in the ratio of enamel to dentin. As a person ages the adult teeth often become darker due to changes in the mineral structure of the tooth, as the enamel becomes less porous and phosphate-deficient. The enamel layer may also be gradually thinned or even perforated by the various forms of tooth wear.

Age: There is a direct correlation between tooth color and age. Over the years, teeth darken as a result of wear and tear and stain accumulation. Teenagers will likely experience immediate, dramatic results from whitening. In the twenties, as the teeth begin to show a yellow cast, whitening may require a little more effort. By the forties, the yellow gives way to brown and more maintenance may be called for. By the fifties, the teeth have absorbed a host of stubborn stains which can prove difficult (but not impossible) to remove. Museum Dental Suites in Holborn - Emergency Dentist London

Dr. Paul Amato, DDS, FAGD explained if you go above 10% hydrogen peroxide or 35% carbamide peroxide, “then you’re getting into the professional grade.” Whitening products this strong should only be used with dentist supervision — they’ll take care to completely protect your gum tissue with a rubber dam or gel. In any case, you should consult your dentist before using any teeth whitening product to make sure you’re getting what’s best for your teeth and gums.
Once your gum disease is under control, it is very important for you to get dental care on a consistent basis. The periodic cleanings recommended after these treatments are called periodontal maintenance care. These cleanings are more extensive than the standard cleaning and will help you keep your gums healthy. Your periodontal maintenance involves cleanings that are deeper than a normal cleaning in the dental office. With periodic maintenance, the amount of plaque bacteria is lowered. Then, the inflammation can get better, pockets can shrink and your gums can become healthier.

The more dangerous bacteria are able to thrive and multiply, producing some harmful by-products which stimulate the body’s defensive inflammatory response in the gums. As the disease progresses, chronic inflammation causes the bone of the jaw to be destroyed and the teeth to be lost. In many people, this is a gradual process that takes place over many years and, if detected and treated, can be halted. However, some young adults have a very active form of the disease which causes early loosening and loss of the teeth.

This kit is extremely easy to use. You can get on with your first treatment as soon as it arrives, without worrying about molding the tray, and the application of gel by the syringe is much more accurate and cleaner. It contains enough gel for 20 sessions, but unless you have very stained teeth you probably won’t need this many, so you’ll have enough left to touch up if you need to after a few weeks or months. The cornerstone of successful periodontal treatment starts with establishing excellent oral hygiene. This includes twice-daily brushing with daily flossing. Also, the use of an interdental brush is helpful if space between the teeth allows. For smaller spaces, products such as narrow picks with soft rubber bristles provide excellent manual cleaning. Persons with dexterity problems, such as arthritis, may find oral hygiene to be difficult and may require more frequent professional care and/or the use of a powered toothbrush. Persons with periodontitis must realize it is a chronic inflammatory disease and a lifelong regimen of excellent hygiene and professional maintenance care with a dentist/hygienist or periodontist is required to maintain affected teeth.
