Criteria for the success of the implant supported dental prosthetic varies from study to study, but can be broadly classified into failures due to the implant, soft tissues or prosthetic components or a lack of satisfaction on the part of the patient. The most commonly cited criteria for success are function of at least five years in the absence of pain, mobility, radiographic lucency and peri-implant bone loss of greater than 1.5 mm on the implant, the lack of suppuration or bleeding in the soft tissues and occurrence of technical complications/prosthetic maintenance, adequate function, and esthetics in the prosthetic. In addition, the patient should ideally be free of pain, paraesthesia, able to chew and taste and be pleased with the esthetics.
The National Institutes of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) sometimes seeks volunteers with specific dental, oral, and craniofacial conditions to participate in research studies, also known as clinical trials. Researchers may provide study participants with limited free or low-cost dental treatment for the particular condition they are studying. To find out if there are any NIDCR clinical trials that you might fit into, go to "NIDCR Studies Seeking Patients." For a complete list of all federally funded clinical trials, visit ClinicalTrials.gov. To see if you qualify for any clinical trials being conducted at our Bethesda, Maryland, campus, you can call the Clinical Center's Patient Recruitment and Public Liaison Office at 1-800-411-1222.
Gels are becoming popular among home teeth whitening aficionados because their targeted application tends to cause less pain in sensitive people. That's because you "paint" them directly on your teeth, which allows you to avoid the solution coming in contact with your gums. Although they claim to whiten quickly and to lighten up dark stains better than other types of whitening products, experts say that's not so: because they're just painted on, they don't really stay on long enough to be as effective as products that stay in contact with your teeth for a set period of time. Darkly stained teeth. Yellowish teeth respond well to bleaching, brownish-colored teeth respond less well and grayish-hue or purple-stained teeth may not respond to bleaching at all. Blue-gray staining caused by the antibiotic tetracycline is more difficult to lighten and may require up to six months of home treatments or several in-office appointments to successfully lighten.

This teeth whitening light works best when whitening gel or strips are applied to the teeth first, then shined on (both are sold separate). The light can be tucked just behind the lips so it rests comfortably and shines on the front of your teeth. The light can be used for short whitening sessions of just 10 minutes or up to 45+ minutes, depending on the instructions provided by the teeth whitening gel or strips you use. Once the implant has bonded to the jawbone, a small connector post -- called an abutment -- is attached to the post to securely hold the new tooth. To make the new tooth or teeth, your dentist makes impressions of your teeth, and creates a model of your bite (which captures all of your teeth, their type, and arrangement). The new tooth or teeth is based on this model. A replacement tooth, called a crown, is then attached to the abutment. Removal of Failed Dental Implant
Nearly half the initial change in color provided by an intensive in-office treatment (i.e., 1 hour treatment in a dentist's chair) may be lost in seven days. Rebound is experienced when a large proportion of the tooth whitening has come from tooth dehydration (also a significant factor in causing sensitivity). As the tooth rehydrates, tooth color "rebounds", back toward where it started. Hungary Dental Implant Clinic in London
According to the ADA, “It is known that at concentrations of 10% hydrogen peroxide or higher, the chemical is potentially corrosive to mucous membranes or skin, and can cause a burning sensation and tissue damage.” Florida-based dentist Dr. Katia Friedman DDS told us, “[For carbamide peroxide] 30-35% is theoretically equal to about 10% hydrogen peroxide” — these numbers are within safe limits for your mouth. The ingredients in this system are similar to the kind of whitening gels dentist use across the United States and Europe, and so you can expect great results. The kit only comes with six treatments, which is much less than some of the other kits, but because there is no set schedule to follow and this kit is meant to deliver results over time, it seems reasonable to have only six treatments.

For whitening at home, your dentist can make trays to hold the whitening gel that fit your teeth precisely. Home whitening gel usually needs to be applied daily for two to three weeks. Over-the-counter kits also are widely available for home use. They provide trays to hold the gel, or whitening strips that stick to your teeth. Talk to your dentist if you want to use these home products. Be sure to follow directions to avoid overuse and possible damage to your teeth and mouth. King's Dental Students Mannequin Challenge

Dentists and dental hygienists measure periodontal disease using a device called a periodontal probe. This thin "measuring stick" is gently placed into the space between the gums and the teeth, and slipped below the gumline. If the probe can slip more than 3 mm (0.12 in) below the gumline, the person is said to have a gingival pocket if no migration of the epithelial attachment has occurred or a periodontal pocket if apical migration has occurred. This is somewhat of a misnomer, as any depth is, in essence, a pocket, which in turn is defined by its depth, i.e., a 2-mm pocket or a 6-mm pocket. However, pockets are generally accepted as self-cleansable (at home, by the person, with a toothbrush) if they are 3 mm or less in depth. This is important because if a pocket is deeper than 3 mm around the tooth, at-home care will not be sufficient to cleanse the pocket, and professional care should be sought. When the pocket depths reach 6 to 7 mm (0.24 to 0.28 in) in depth, the hand instruments and cavitrons used by the dental professionals may not reach deeply enough into the pocket to clean out the microbial plaque that causes gingival inflammation. In such a situation, the bone or the gums around that tooth should be surgically altered or it will always have inflammation which will likely result in more bone loss around that tooth. An additional way to stop the inflammation would be for the person to receive subgingival antibiotics (such as minocycline) or undergo some form of gingival surgery to access the depths of the pockets and perhaps even change the pocket depths so they become 3 mm or less in depth and can once again be properly cleaned by the person at home with his or her toothbrush. If you happen to be suffering from broken braces or wires from your braces poking into the interior skin of your mouth, you’re going to want to cover those pieces of broken wire as soon as you can. It is suggested to purchase dental wax over the counter at most pharmacies, in fact when the dentist installed the braces they probably gave you a small container of the wax for just such occasions. Take a small ball of the wax and roll it up in your fingers and then place it gently over the top of the wire that is bothering you. Next find yourself an appointment with an orthodontist. The term “whitening” on the other hand, refers to restoring a tooth’s surface color by removing dirt and debris. So technically speaking, any product that is used to clean the teeth (like a toothpaste) is considered a whitener. Of course, the term whitening sounds better than bleaching, so it is more frequently used — even when describing products that contain bleach.
The long-term success of periodontal treatment depends both on your own efforts with oral hygiene and those of the practice team who provide your regular care and ongoing assessment. After the first phase of treatment has been completed, your dentist will need to review the condition of your gums at regular intervals to check that the inflammation has been halted. The frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend on the severity of disease and your individual risk of disease progression. Usually, follow-up visits are scheduled for every three to six months.
Most alternative "at-home" gum disease treatments involve injecting antimicrobial solutions, such as hydrogen peroxide, into periodontal pockets via slender applicators or oral irrigators. This process disrupts anaerobic micro-organism colonies and is effective at reducing infections and inflammation when used daily. A number of other products, functionally equivalent to hydrogen peroxide, are commercially available, but at substantially higher cost. However, such treatments do not address calculus formations, and so are short-lived, as anaerobic microbial colonies quickly regenerate in and around calculus.

Many women who become pregnant think that they should avoid the dentist to keep their pregnancy safe, but they shouldn't miss their dental cleanings as long as they feel strong and comfortable enough. During pregnancy, women are at risk of developing pregnancy gingivitis. Because of the increase in hormones that occurs with pregnancy, the gum tissues are more susceptible to attack from bacteria and other pathogens. Pregnant women will often notice an increase in swollen, bleeding gums even if their oral hygiene has remained consistent. It may be necessary to get dental cleanings more often than usual during pregnancy to help combat this increased risk. [Pickering Dental Surgeries] [London] Incredible Five Star Review
What's in that teeth whitening product? We wanted to include the percentage of whitening ingredient in each of the teeth whitening products that we recommend, but it's not easy to ascertain that number because the manufacturers do not include those specifics on their websites. In each case, we reached out to the manufacturer to verify ingredient percentages, with mixed results. Some makers were glad to share percentages, others politely declined, saying that was considered proprietary information.
A toothache is a pain on or around a tooth. It may be caused by a variety of things from a cavity, abscess, or even sinusitis. Toothache symptoms include pain, headache, ear ache, bad taste in the mouth, and gum swelling. Dental X-rays and other tests performed by a dentist are used to diagnose the cause of a toothache. Tootache treatment depends on the underlying cause. Taking proper care of the teeth and gums can help prevent toothache. Part 1-Dental Implant Placement with Bone Grafting and Membrane
Historically, there have been two different types of dental implants: (1) endosteal and (2) subperiosteal. Endosteal refers to an implant that is "in the bone," and subperiosteal refers to an implant that rests on top of the jawbone under the gum tissue. Subperiosteal implants are no longer in use today because of their poor long-term results in comparison to endosteal dental implants. Dental implants London - Call 02073281200
If you suffer an injury to your mouth that results in tissue damage and bleeding, your best bet is to go to the emergency room. The doctors there can stitch up any external cuts and refer you to an emergency dentist for any damage to your teeth or oral tissues. Until you reach the emergency room, you can control bleeding by placing pressure on the wounded area with a cold compress. Rinse your mouth with cool water to control any bleeding from internal cuts and to keep the area clean. Cosmetic Dentistry - London Cosmetic Dentists londonsmile.co.uk Video
The general recommendation is to use over-the-counter whitening products up to two times a year. Using whitening products too often can lead to increased tooth sensitivity or white spots — this is natural and due to certain areas of your teeth that have a lack of calcium (also known as hypocalcification). Excessive whitening can make the spots more prominent. Best Cosmetic Dentist London - My Experience
A toothache is the #1 highest occurring dental emergency that requires patients to seek out emergency dental care nearby. Common medical suggestions for dealing with a toothache are to rinse the mouth using warm water, then try using dental floss to remove any obstructions that may be causing the pain. It is never recommended to use aspirin directly on a toothache. Finally, if it’s after normal business hours, get a hold of an after hours business using our services. The London Cosmetic Dentistry
